What do we do?
The Writing Squad offers:
- Four one-day group meetings each year concentrating on the development of specific genre, as well as structure, characterisation, intention, critical reading etc. led by the course director Danny Broderick and guest tutors such as novelist and Professor at the University of Manchester's Centre for New Writing, Patricia Duncker, and poet and Poetry Business Director, Peter Sansom.
- Four face to face personal tutorials a year, with the course director, focusing on the squad writers' ongoing work.
- A members only web site stimulating contact between the squad writers as well as postings of work in progress, exercises and archives.
- Showcasing of work through events and the web.
Two cohorts of writers have gone through the process. Ten writers from the first two Squads are continuing to work with us, and we have supported them further to develop their work, undertake job placements, and have contributed financially to help them take their first steps as professional writers.
